Yard Weather Station

A self-hosted environmental station built to quantify the wind resource on one specific property.

The question

Is the local wind resource strong and consistent enough to justify a small turbine?

Why it matters

Build from evidence.

A wind turbine is too expensive and time-consuming to design from intuition. A full seasonal record can turn a hunch into an engineering decision.

Success criteria

What good looks like.

  1. Measure wind speed, gust, and direction
  2. Collect at least one seasonal cycle
  3. Log reliably to a self-hosted server
  4. Preserve raw data for later energy analysis

Engineering decisions

Why it is designed this way.

Measure before building

The turbine remains a future project until the site data supports it.

Own the data

Raw measurements will be stored on infrastructure under direct control.

Files and results

Published when useful.

Plans, drawings, data, and test results will appear here as they are verified and prepared for public use.
